Few Kanoe exist; in 2002, they numbered 95.cite web |url=http://www.survival-international.org/tribes/akuntsu |title=Akuntsu and Kanoê |accessdate=2007-09-22] There are two bands of Kanoe. The majority live along the banks of the Guaporé River; and there is a single family of three people, uncontacted prior to 1995, who live on the Omerê River, a tributary of the Corumbiara. Language

The Kanoe people speak the Kanoe language, though it faces extinction because of the dwindling number of native speakers and because those who do speak it have intermarried with other tribes who speak other languages.
