York Regional Road 32, locally known as Ravenshoe Road, is a two-lane, predominantly rural road located in York Region. It forms the boundary between the towns of East Gwillimbury to the south and Georgina to the north. East of the York/Durham Line, the road forms the boundary between York Region to the north and Durham Region to the south. The road passes through the communities of Keswick and Udora.

Attractions

Ravenshoe Road begins at the Holland River, southeast of Keswick. This section of the road is located within the fertile grounds of the Holland Marsh. Thus, the first few kilometres of the road are used for farming. A small, isolated segment of Yonge Street, discontinuous with all other sections, runs south from Ravenshoe Road in the marsh.

The road then passes through the extreme southern edge of Keswick. This segment features three streets that extend into Cook’s Bay, a public park (West Park), and a housing development along Thornelodge Drive.

The road is very rural east of Keswick. The area consists of mostly farms and forests for many kilometres. Brown Hill Station Park is located just east of Highway 48.

Ravenshoe Road is an arterial road in the hamlet of Udora, from Weir’s Sideroad to Victoria Street. The street plays a key role in allowing commuters to leave the city.

Future Plans

The McGuinty provincial government promised to extend Highway 404 north from its current terminus at Green Lane. The new terminus will be Ravenshoe Road [cite web | title = Province pledges to extend Hwy. 404. | publisher = York Region | author = Sean Pearce | url = http://www.yorkregion.com/News/Regional%20News/article/45205 | date = 2007 | accessdate = 2007-09-02] .

A lengthy stretch of Ravenshoe Road, spanning 6.3 kilometers from Prout Road to Weir’s Sideroad, could be shut down for as long as two years [cite web | title = Ravenshoe Road may be closed for two years. | publisher = York Region | author = John Slykhuis| url = http://yorkregion.com/article/37812 | date = 2007 | accessdate = 2007-09-02] . That section of the road is described as “badly deteriorating” and is in need of repair.

Transportation

York Region Transit operates route 51 for a few kilometres along the western edge of Ravenshoe Road [cite web | title = Route Navigator. | publisher = York Region Transit | author = | url = http://www.yorkregiontransit.com/maps/navigators/51.pdf | date = 2007 | accessdate = 2007-09-02] . It connects Thornridge Drive and Lake Drive South.

Go Transit route 69, which was recently integrated with York Region Transit route 69, crosses Ravenshoe Road en route from Newmarket to Beaverton.

The York Region government classifies different parts of the road as Class 2, 3 and 4 [cite web | title = Regional Road Annual Average Daily Traffic Volumes. | publisher = York Region | author = | url = http://yorkexplorer.york.ca/yorkexplorer/pdf/2006_TrafficVolumes_Sml.pdf | date = 2006 | accessdate = 2007-09-02] . There is significant variation in traffic; the farming grounds on the west end see less than 3,000 vehicles per day while the vast rural segment between Keswick and Udora sees over 10,000 vehicles.
