Three Furnaces

The Three Furnaces of China (linktext|三|大|火|炉) refers to the especially hot summer weather in several major cities in the People's Republic of China:

*Wuhan
*Nanjing
*Chongqing

Sometimes, Nanchang or Changsha is added, making The Four Furnaces of China (linktext|四|大|火|炉).

Also, The Seven Furnaces (linktext|七|大|火|炉) are: Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Changsha, Hangzhou, Nanchang, and Shanghai.

Wuhan is by far the hottest; the average temperature in July is 37°C (99°F), and the maximum often exceeds 40°C (104°F).Fact|date=August 2007
