Bicoastal

Bicoastal

The term "bicoastal" refers to people who are more connected to the West Coast and the Northeast of the United States than to the rest of the country.

A stereotypical bicoastal person might split their time between such Northeastern US cities as New York, Boston, or Philadelphia and western seaboard cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Francisco, and is well educated and cosmopolitan. Although "bicoastal" connotes sophistication when used by those to whom the label would apply, it may be intended as a pejorative when used by political conservatives to imply snobbery and membership in the "liberal elite". As a corollary, the term "flyover country" has currency among bicoastal individuals as a derisive label for the regions of the United States that lie between the areas they frequent.
