Greenville is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 2,332 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Greenville is located at coor dms|39|46|30|N|75|35|48|W|city (39.774879, -75.596619)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.1 km²), of which, 2.7 square miles (7.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.73%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,332 people, 1,190 households, and 679 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 852.4 people per square mile (328.6/km²). There were 1,329 housing units at an average density of 485.8/sq mi (187.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.51% White, 2.02% African American, 0.13% Native American, 4.89% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.64% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.36% of the population.

There were 1,190 households out of which 17.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.8% were married couples living together, 3.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.9% were non-families. 38.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.96 and the average family size was 2.57.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.4% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 25.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $76,674, and the median income for a family was $136,876. Males had a median income of $72,083 versus $46,563 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $83,223. None of the families and 0.4% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and none of those over 64.

Greenville and Henlopen Acres are the two richest places in Delaware, all but tied for highest personal incomes, averaging over $80,000 per annum. The ZIP code 19710, partially contained within eastern Greenville, is the highest-income ZIP code, and indeed the highest-income census-defined geography, in the entire United States, with a per capita income of over $600,000 per annum.
