The 2007 Amirli bombing was a suicide car bomb attack that occurred on July 7, 2007, in a market in the town of Amirli, Iraq. The bombing killed 156 people with 255 injured. [ [http://antiwar.com/updates/?articleid=11255 Saturday: 237 Iraqis, 7 GIs, 2 Britons Killed; 316 Iraqis Wounded] ]

The truck bomb struck Amirli on a busy Saturday shopping morning, destroying several buildings around the heart of the market, police said. Rescuers were forced to move injured people to Tuz Khurmato, the nearest major town, some 45km (28 miles) away, and some were said to have died on the way. *Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki blamed insurgents for the attack, saying their actions were showing signs of desperation.
