Simon Milton (politician)

Sir Simon Milton, is a British Conservative politician and a senior figure in English local government. He is leader of Westminster City Council and Chairman of the Local Government Association.

Early life and education

Born in October 1961 to the late Clive Milton and Ruth Klein (now Gross after re-marriage) he started his working career in his father's business "Sharaton's" a famous chain of Patisserie shops and bakers with about 20 shops in North London. The business was sold to Ponti's on his father's retirement.

Educated at St Paul's and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge where he was Chairman of the Cambridge University Conservative Association and President of the Cambridge Union Society.

Career and honours

In addition to his roles at the LGA, Milton is also a Consultant Member Peer of the Improvement and Development Agency and Peer Member of the Audit Commission. He is also a Trustee of the Energy Savings Trust.

Simon Milton was named as a recipient of a knighthood in the 2006 New Year's honours list.

Appointment to Mayor Boris Johnson's administration, 2008

Effective 6 May 2008, Sir Simon Milton was appointed to the position of "Senior Adviser, Planning" [cite web |title=Boris Johnson announces further senior appointments to his administration|url=http://www.london.gov.uk/view_press_release.jsp?releaseid=16774 |date=2008-05-06 |accessdate=2008-05-06 |work=london.gov.uk] in the administration of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Personal life

Simon Milton and his partner Robert Davis (a fellow Westminster Councillor and former Lord Mayor of Westminster) have been together for 20 years and entered into a Civil Partnership in June 2007.
