Rochester Football Club

Rochester Football Club

The Rochester Football Club was formed at a meeting held on June 8th, 1874 at Tidy's Restdown Hotel. The club was formed with the purpose of soon "playing and beating Echuca". An intense rivalry that has endured ever since regardless of which competition each was playing in.

1990s

The 1990s was a successful period, culminating in 6 senior grand final births.

The seniors and reserves made the grand final in 1990, but both teams lost.

The seniors made the grand final in 1992, defeating Tatura by 2 points in the wet.

The team was: "'B: Tim Cottom – Martin Kick – Simon McCartyHB: Dean Duursma - Jamie Duursma – Shane DupayC: Darryl O’Neil – David Williams – Stuart PalmerHF: Nigel Dobell – Robert Miller – Anthony McPheeF: David Puatmorsie – Adam Edwards – Wayne CowanR: Warren Martin– Michael Auld – Michael KeenanInter: Rodney Keogh - Jeremy RourkeEmeg: Bowden Hamilton – Brad Major – Darren Chugg – Robert Else"'

Martin Kick dropped out of the team due to an ankle injury sustained in the semi-final. He was replaced by Bowden Hamilton.

The seniors made the 1993 grand final, but was defeated by Shepparton in controversial circumstances by a kick after the siren.

The club participated in a night series Centenary celebration of the GVFL. Rochester won the preliminary games and then defeated Tatura in the final. Anthony McPhee kicked a goal from 40m near the siren to put Rochester 5 points ahead.

In 2008 the boys beat Seymour for the premiership cup denying Seymour the chance of winning 4 cups in a row. The Seymour boys cut up very rough after this and now that their coffers have dried up it looks like they'll be shot for a while yet to come.
