Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) is a Peshawar-based news agency of Afghanistan formed in 1982 by Muhammad Yaqub Sharafat during USSR invasion of Afghanistan for propaganda purposes against Soviet and Afghan forces and in favour of Mujahedeen and Afghan warlords. After the Taliban came into power in Afghanistan, the news agency started as an official organ for the Taliban but pretended to be independent and reliable. The Taliban used it excessively to propagate their claims and statements. As the director of the news agency had close relations with Taliban leaders, the news agency started publishing every claim and statement by all anti-afghan government and Nato terrorists during the 2001 U.S. invasion of Afghanistan the agency
