[http://www.cqpress.com CQ Press] , a division of "SAGE Publications," publishes books, directories, periodicals, and electronic products on American government and politics, with an expanding list in international affairs and journalism and mass communication.

In May 2008, CQ Press was purchased from " Congressional Quarterly" by "SAGE Publications" in its entirety. CQ Press consistently ranks among the top commercial publishers in terms of quality, as evidenced by the numerous awards its products have won over the years:

The Society of Professional Journalists honored the publication with a Sigma Delta Chi Award of Excellence in 2000 for a series on health care.

The Congressional Staff Directory has been published continuously since 1959, the Federal Staff Directory since 1982, and the Judicial Staff Directory since 1986. Each directory in the series features multiple print editions throughout the year and is complemented with Web-based daily updates.

The CQ Press [http://www.cqpress.com/college College Publishing Group] publishes political science textbooks, combining innovative titles with well-known classics, all of which maintain CQ Press's high standards of quality and distinction. The group has recently expanded its offerings to include works on public administration, international studies, and journalism and mass communication.

CQ Press owes its existence to Nelson Poynter, former publisher of the [http://www.tampabay.com St. Petersburg Times] , and his wife Henrietta, with whom he founded "Congressional Quarterly" (CQ) in 1945. Poynter established CQ with the mission of promoting democracy through education and in 1975 founded the Modern Media Institute, renamed the [http://www.poynter.org Poynter Institute for Media Studies] after his death. The Poynter Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to training journalists and media leaders.
