Haley is an English surname, a popular female given name and an occasional boy's name.

As one of many variations on the name Hayley, [SSA's Office of the Chief Actuary, 1998. [http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/top98.html] ] "Haley" is derived from the Old English word "hēġlēah", meaning "hay field". It was predominately gender neutral until it gained popularity as a girl's name following the 1960s child actress Hayley Mills, who was named after her mother's middle name.
