"The Beta Band" is the debut album of The Beta Band, released in 1999. The album followed the critically acclaimed compilation of their first three EPs titled "The Three EPs". The band themselves have half-seriously disowned this album, calling it "fucking awful", but nonetheless "still 10 times better than any other record that year". "The Hard One" uses samples of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. Jim Steinman, (who wrote and produced "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and was planning on resurrecting the song at the time) wasn't too pleased at first and insisted that the band re-record it without the samples, but he soon had a change of heart and the track went ahead.
