Deborah Fátima Carthy Deu (born January 5 1966) in Santurce, Puerto Rico. es [ Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular. Biografías: Deorah Carthy-Deu.] ] She became the second Miss Universe from Puerto Rico. The contest was held at James L. Knight Center of Miami, Florida on July 15, 1985.


Early years

Deborah Carthy-Deu was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Ramón Carthy Sanchez and Vicky Deu, of Irishimdb name | id=1068832 | name=Deborah Carthy-Deu] descent,Fact|date=January 2007. Her mother directed an academy for ballet and modeling, Academia de Ballet y Modelaje Vicky Sanz, under the name of Vicky Sanz. [, Biographies.] ] Her father was a photography director. At age nine she started to take ballet classes at the school her mother directed. She was trained as a classical ballerina. [ Miss Universe, History: Deborah Carthy Deu.] ] She attended an elementary catholic school and later enrolled in the ninth grade at Commonwealth High School. From age thirteen on she spent her summers in New York City taking dance classes. She later attended the University of Puerto Rico pursued a major in drama. At thirteen she also auditioned for Ballet Concierto and becomes part of the dance company.

Miss Universe

While she was in college, she was selected Miss San Juan in March 22, 1985 and later Miss Puerto Rico on April 27, 1985. On July 15, 1985, she was crowned Miss Universe 1985 representing Puerto Rico in Miami, Florida. Once her Miss Universe obligations were over she moved to California where she lived for several months where she tried to become an actress. Although she did not have much success as an actress, she had success as a model. She also went to Argentina to portray the leading character in the telenovela "El Cisne Blanco".

Post Miss Universe

Aside from representing her hometown in the Miss Universe Pageant, and winning this title, Deborah graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico and obtained the Theater Medal, awarded to the most distinguished graduate. She majored in Theater Arts and Education.

As an actress, Carthy-Deu has worked both in theater and television and has earned the respect of the critics for her participation, both in comedies and dramas.Fact|date=January 2008 She owns a modeling and finishing school, known as Deborah Carthy Deu Estudio y Agencia de Modelos, in which she helps girls and women to develop social skills and self esteem, as well as to start careers in modeling, the arts, television and participate in beauty pageants.

Carthy-Deu has hosted several television shows in Puerto Rico, New York and Miami, that include working for both Univision and the Telemundo network. Working on television programs such as: Noche de Gala, (Gala Night Ball), alongside Eddie Miró, "Desde Mi Pueblo", (From My Town), alongside Yoyo Boing & Tony Croatto, and "La Buena Vida", has allowed her to become one of the top emcee's (Master of Ceremonies) in Puerto Rico and abroad. As of 2007, Carthy-Deu is hosting a remake of Noche de Gala, produced by Paquito Cordero, and broadcasted by WIPR-TV.
