Lab Architecture Studio

Lab Architecture Studio is a firm of architects and urban designers based in Melbourne, Australia. with offices in London and Beijing. The firm burst onto the world's architectural stage in 1997 when they won the international architectural competition to design Federation Square in Melbourne with a striking contemporary design reminiscent of the work of Daniel Libeskind. The design was highly controversial, being very popular with the design community and causing outrage among heritage groups.

The principals of LAB are Don Bates, originally from Texas and Peter Davidson, originally from New South Wales, who met while teaching at architecture schools in London. Federation Square was their first realised building. Since Federation Square, LAB have entered and been placed in many competitions and secured major projects in Beijing and Riyadh.
