James Thues (born June 6, 1981) is a former college basketball player for the Syracuse Orange and the University of Detroit-Mercy from Detroit, Michigan. He currently plays for the Detroit Panthers.

High School

Thues played at Detroit Martin Luther King and led the Crusaders to the Detroit City Championship and a PSL title in 1999, his junior season. That year, he scored a career-best 34 points in a PSL playoff game against Denby. As a senior, he averaged 18.4 points, 6.8 assists and 4.0 steals per game. For his efforts, he was named a Class A All-State selection of both the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News and was also a first-team All-Metro honoree. College

Thues played in 24 games as a freshman at Syracuse University, averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 assists.

In his sophomore year, he appeared in 31 games, starting 18 of them as Syracuse advanced to the National Invitation Tournament. Thues averaged 5.6 points and had a team-leading 178 assists (4.9 apg), good for third in the Big East in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.02-to-1). In additional, Thues had Tied the school record with 101 steals that season and shot 44% from the field, including 13-for-43 (.302) from three-point land. Following his sophomore season, Thues, wanting to be closer to home, transferred to Detroit-Mercy. In his junior year, Thues started 18 games to begin the season, and then came off the bench as a sixth man from early February on after suffering an ankle injury midway through the conference schedule. Thues finished fifth on the team with an 8.4 scoring average and led the Titans in assists with 107 (a 3.6 average). He was named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team.

Professional career

Following graduation, Thues played in the 2005 Summer League in Treviso (Italy) (Gatorade team). He also participated in the Backcourt Legabasket camp in Syracuse, N.Y. In the 2005-06 season, Thues played in Ligan, the premier league for basketball in Sweden, with the Helsingborg Pearls (SWE-Basketligan,1T).
