Hospital Radio Perth

Hospital Radio Perth

Hospital radio began in Perth in the 1960s when a small group of dedicated people brought commentary from St Johnstone matches at Muirton Park to patients at Perth Royal Infirmary. Unfortunately the service only lasted a few years.

The registered charity, [http://www.hospitalradioperth.org.uk/ Hospital Radio Perth ] was launched at Perth Royal Infirmary on 20 February 1989 in a second floor room converted into a tiny studio with small record library and storage area.

The organisation was determined that it would place as much emphasis on patient visiting as it did on programme broadcasting. Only 6 months after the launch the organisation won the Scottish Regional Patients' Choice Award. The competition was organised by Mills and Boon and the listening audience cast the votes.

In the spring of 1990 the organisation began to broadcast commentary from McDiarmid Park and has been broadcasting St Johnstone commentary ever since!

The organisation moved to larger premises on the same site in 1994.

The station has been awarded the coveted [http://www.hbauk.com/ Hospital Broadcasting Association] “UK Station Of The Year” Award a record four times in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2007.

Broadcasting 24 hours a day 365 days a year, [http://www.hospitalradioperth.org.uk/ Hospital Radio Perth] is the most successful hospital radio station in the UK.Fact|date=September 2008

Hospital Radio Perth's main fundraising event for 2008 was a charity walk on Sunday 1 June 2008. See [http://www.justgiving.com/hrp/ their donation page] for details.
