Bryn Athyn College is a small private liberal-arts college located in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, northeast of Philadelphia. The college is religiously affiliated to the General Church of New Jerusalem, a Swedenborgian church with a heterodox Christian theology. The college is located in the midst of a religious community and the General Church's ecclesiastical organization. Bryn Athyn College is known particularly for its large endowment, low faculty/student ratio, international student diversity and its unique religious faith. It has the highest endowment per student subsidy in the nation, indeed the world.

History

Bryn Athyn College was founded in 1877.

Religion

Bryn Athyn College is a Swedenborgian College. The college distinguishes itself from the church by stating on its web page, "The theology of the New Church fuels our mission, but we are not a church. We are a liberal arts college with a religious mission to spread the teachings of the New Church through intellectual engagement and academic channels. Education is of special value in the New Church. Swedenborgian Scripture teaches, "A man ought to become imbued with sciences and knowledges, because through them he learns how to think; afterwards how to understand what is true and good, and at length how to be wise."
