Glenn Dorsey (born August 1, 1985 in city-state|Baton Rouge|Louisiana) is an American football defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Chiefs fifth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Louisiana State.

Early years

Dorsey attended East Ascension High School in Gonzales, Louisiana, where he was rated among the nation's top defensive linemen and one of the top three prospects in the state. Named a "Parade" All-American and rated the No. 2 prospect in Louisiana by Rivals.com. Named Louisiana's 4-A Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team 4-A All-state pick. Despite being sidelined for three games with an ankle injury, he registered 43 tackles (16 for losses), two sacks and one forced fumble as a senior. During his junior year, Dorsey had more than 100 tackles (12 for losses) and 12 sacks.

College career

In 2004, he started in 3 out of 12 games. On his first collegiate snap he recovered a fumble against Oregon State. He finished the year with 18 tackles. He was projected by Mel Kiper as a guaranteed top 5 draft pick in the upcoming years.

In 2005, he started in 1 out of 13 games. He was among LSU's 4-player rotation at defensive tackle which included Claude Wroten and Kyle Williams. He finished the season with 28 tackles and 3 sacks.

In 2006, Dorsey was named to the 2006 All-American team and was All-SEC. Called "the anchor of the Tigers’ defensive line" he was a vital component of a unit that has allowed just 97.1 rushing yards per game. Finished the season as the Tigers’ third-leading tackler with 64 stops, including 8.5 for losses and three sacks despite being double-teamed most of the year. Dorsey was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week twice during the season.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit called Dorsey, “the best player in college football” heading into the 2007 season. In college he was compared to NFL greats such as Reggie White and Bruce Smith. In 2007, Dorsey was named to the 2007 All-American team. He also finished #9 in the 2007 voting for the Heisman Trophy [cite web | url=http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=1350493 | title=Long Finishes 10th in Heisman Voting | publisher=VirginiaSports.com | date=2007-12-08 | accessdate=2007-01-12] , receiving more votes than any other defensive player in the nation. In addition, Dorsey was awarded the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Outland Trophy, the Lott Trophy and the Lombardi Award, becoming the only player to have won all four awards. He was a key component in LSU’s drive to the BCS national title despite playing second half of season with knee and tailbone injuries. He didn’t miss a start in leading LSU to SEC title and to a 12-2 overall mark with the National Title.

Professional career

Pre-draft

Prior to the draft some NFL teams expressed concern over a lingering stress fracture Dorsey sustained in 2006. At the NFL Combine Dorsey spent nearly ten hours hours getting examined at an Indianapolis hospital. "Health is no concern," said Dorsey. "There are no health concerns to my knowledge. I haven't missed a game at LSU since I've been there. Everybody gets nicked up. That's the way I look at it. I played every game at LSU my whole four years there so I don’t think it’s a problem at all." [ [http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/sportsline/main10665623.shtml CBSnews.com] ]

Kansas City Chiefs

Dorsey was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs fifth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. On July 26, he signed a five-year, $51 million contract with $23 million guaranteed.
