Presidential elections were held in
Poland on SundayNovember 25 (first round), and SundayDecember 9 ,1990 (second round). 60.6% of citizens cast their votes during the first round, 98.5% of those were valid. 53.4% of citizens cast their vote during the second round, 97.7% of those were valid.These were the first direct presidential elections in the history of Poland. Solidarity movementLech Wałęsa and the first non-communist Prime MinisterTadeusz Mazowiecki . Unexpectedly, Wałęsa's challenger in the 2nd round was Canadian businessman of Polish originStanisław Tymiński .
