English Longitudinal Study of Ageing

ELSA (English Longitudinal Study of Ageing) is being conducted by University College London, the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen). ELSA is currently in its fourth wave of data collection. In the first wave (2002) 8000 households were interviewed. Wave two went in the field in 2004 and included a nurse visit in order to collect biomarkers such as lung function, balance and blood pressure. Wave 3 was complete in 2006 and a second wave of biomarker collection began in 2008.

ELSA has a number of sister studies over the world:
* HRS The Health and Retirement Study
* SHARE The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe
* KLoSA The Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging
