Portuguese presidential line of succession

The Portuguese presidential line of succession defines who may become or act as Constitutional President of the Portuguese Republic upon the incapacity, resignation, death or by judge trial of a current President. In case the president dies or becomes incapacitated in office, the President of the Assembly of the Republic assumes office with restricted powers until a new president can be inaugurated following fresh elections. If the President of the Assembly of the Republic is unable to do so, he is replaced by his substitute.
