Biosynthesis
Translation- Biosynthesis
Biosynthesis is a phenomenon wherein
chemical compound s are produced from simplerreagent s. Biosynthesis, unlikechemosynthesis , takes place within livingorganism s and is generally catalyzed byenzyme s. The process is a vital part ofmetabolism .The prerequisites for biosynthesis are:
*Precursor substances
*Energy (usually in the form of ATP).Often required components include:
*Catalysts, usuallyenzyme s
*Reduction equivalents (in the form ofNADH ,NADPH , and others).Important and commonly-known products of biosynthesis include proteins,
vitamin s, andantibiotics , but all components of living beings are a result of this process. In the near future, it may be possible, with the help ofbiotechnology , to harness this process for the production ofbiodegradable plastic s.
