*The race was stopped on the first lap due to Luciano Burti's Prost hitting a slow starting Michael Schumacher's Ferrari. The race was restarted over the original distance.
*The Minardi team started from the pit lane at the first start. But due to the first lap crash, the race was red-flagged. Both Minardis started from their original grid positions at the 2nd start.
*Luciano Burti was launched several feet into the air after hitting the back of a slow starting Michael Schumacher. He escaped injury and made the restart, but spun off on lap 24.
*Heinz-Harald Frentzen was sacked by the Jordan team and forced to miss his home race.
*Ricardo Zonta replaced Heinz-Harald Frentzen for this race.
