Khaki Jabbar District

Khaki Jabbar District is a mountainous district situated in the eastern part of Kabul Province in Afghanistan. Approximately 10,000 families live in the district and another 24,500 individuals are expected to return from Pakistan (2002 official UNHCR est.). The overwhelmingly majority of the population are Pashtuns (at 95%), while the remaining 5% are ethnic Tajiks. Khaki Jabbar district borders with Lowgar Province and Musayi District to the west, Bagrami and Surobi districts to the north, and Nangarhar Province to the east. The district headquarter is Khak-i Jabbar village, which is located in the central part of the district. The district is poor. Many of the people traditionally go to Pakistan as casual labours during the winter, and come back to their native villages during the spring and summer.
