Air Dominicana is the flag carrier airline for the Dominican Republic. It is expected to begin operations in April 2008 with a Boeing 737-800. A second one is due in June 2008, and a Boeing 767-300ER in October.

This airline will operate flights to USA, the Caribbean, South America and Europe.

History

Air Dominicana was incorporated on May 9, 2007 in Santo Domingo with a capital of US$10 million. This airline will begin its operations in May 2008 with a Boeing 737 300. Its main purpose is to promote tourism--therefore its main hub will be located at Punta Cana.

Begins Services

Air Dominicana, the new flag carrier of Dominican Republic, is now launching it services in May, 2008, with the beginning of their operations from its Hub, Punta Cana.

This Airline will start operations as a Charter Airline, with flights to an initial range that conforms all the Caribbean, a part of South America, Mexico and the United States. They will begin operations in its first aircraft, a 737 300 that will come to Dominican Republic a few months before the Launch Service. The first 737 300 has a serial number of 23628/1304, was built in 1986 and previously flew for America West, Hola Airlines, Airclass Airways and Futura. The airlines is a joint-venture between the Dominican Government and Spanish businessman Juan Jose Hidalgo, owner of Air Europa through his diversified travel and tourism holding Company Globalia. Air Dominicana announces operations to start on May 3rd, from Punta Cana International Airport, them, by the year they will start operations in Santo Domingo and Santiago in July. Note; Air Dominicana is not the Flag Carrier of the Dominican Republic. 1. AD does not even have permission to fly to any US Destination yet. 2. They are a charter company not a scheduled airline! I still have not seen one of their aircraft in revenue service (As of 7/2008).

In May 1, Air Dominicana announced that the operations will be delayed until May 14, because the Aircraft had some problems in one of its stops en route to Dominican Republic. Air Dominicana will launch its flights in May 14, 2008. cite web | url=http://latam.msnusers.com/td3qducbck0okid219685aecu5/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=1&ID_Message=1495| title = Air Dominicana will launch now in May 14| author = Soila Paniagua| publisher = Periodico El Caribe| date = May 1 2008 | accessdate = 2008-05-06] cite web | url=http://latam.msnusers.com/td3qducbck0okid219685aecu5/foro.msnw?action=get_message&mview=1&ID_Message=1153| title = Air Dominicana to open International Routes from several international airports in DR| author = El Caribe| publisher = Periodico El Caribe| date = March 24 2008 | accessdate = 2008-03-25]
