Saint John Academy

Saint John Academy is a Catholic school for secondary students situated in Rizal Street, Dinalupihan, Bataan, Philippines and is in the Diocese of Balanga. It is run under the direction of Rev. Msgr. Wilfredo B. Fabros as the Balanga Diocesan Schools Superintendent, and its Principal Mrs. Gemma R. Yao. Founded in 1960, Saint John Academy (SJA) schools some 1,000 students.

History

Saint John Academy was born out of a clamor for a Catholic educational institution which will provide a deeply-rooted Christian formation to the young and which can supply the volunteers for the Parochial Catechetical program at the public schools within the parish.

The death of Msgr. Ricardo Esguerra and the subsequent change in the ownership and venue of the school he founded, the Northern Bataan institute, left the parish without a school to nurture the spiritual life of the youth.

The new academy, following the example of its patron saint, has proven its worth in its scholastic performance in different competitions and in its inspiring religious activities within the parish community. After being recognized as a government mandated Private School, the dynamism of its operation produced successful graduates, nurtured with Christian values.

Saint John Academy came into existence not merely to provide quality education but more importantly, Christian formation to its students. Various religious educations such as the Student Catholic Action, Children of Mary and Legion of Mary were established to initiate students into the apostolic life of the Church. However, what was considered as the most significant contribution of the academy of the parish was the catechetical program wherein its junior and senior student taught the Catholic Faith in the elementary schools of the parish.

Saint John Academy is called by the Diocese of Balanga to widen its vision and share in the threefold purpose of Catholic education: to proclaim to the students the Gospel of Jesus Christ (KERYGMA); to enable them to experience fellowship in the life of the Holy Spirit (KOINONIA); and to prepare them to a life service to the Christian community and the entire human race (DIAKONIA)

It is only in sharing in this total mission of the church that Saint John Academy becomes a true Catholic educational institution. As such, its operation and progress deserve to engage the joint participation of families, teachers, various kinds of cultural, civic, and religious groups, civil society and invaluable work for the church.

tatement of SJA

Mission statement

We, the Johannines, inspired by the life of Saint John the Baptist, resolutely commit ourselves to the integral Christian and human development of the Filipino youth.

Vision statement

We endeavor to establish an educational Christian community which integrates the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the life of its members and which offers quality education that will fully develop their human potentials.

Objectives

Saint John Academy is committed to use all its human and material resources to achieve the following goals:

1. To provide the total Christian formation of the youth that will lead them to a deeper knowledge and to a closer imitation of the life and mission of Jesus Christ.

2. To provide those various faith-experiences that will produce Catholics who understand and practice their religion.

3. To provide competent teachers and instructional facilities that will prepare the students academically for their chosen career/vocation.

4. To provide communal activities that will enable the faculty and the students to become individuals who can lead, relate and respond to the needs of the community and the environment.

The Symbol of SJA

It is made up of two concentric circles. Within the outer circle are the words “SAINT JOHN ACADEMY” and “ADVENIAT REGNUM TUUM”, separated by asterisks. Saint John Academy is the name of the institution while ADVENIAT REGNUM TUUM (in English, Your Kingdom Come) is the motto of the school. Inside the inner circle is a lamb resting on a book.

The lamb symbolizes Jesus Christ, whom John the Baptist revealed as the Paschal Lamb provided by God for the forgiveness of sins, who will offer himself on the cross as sacrifice that is acceptable to God. The book symbolizes the gospel of the Lamb of God, which he summed in his inaugural message. “This is time of fulfillment. The reign of God is at hand. Reform your lives and believe in the gospel.”.

Alma Mater hymn

Comrades we gather,

let's get together,

as we greet our loving alma mater.

Schoolmates and teachers,

parents and founders,

for this school we bind ourselves together.

Onward we go on, forward we march on.

Long live our school named after Saint John!

Guide us patron Saint John,

lead the way to march on,

To the light of learning you have shown.

Work and play in school we are happy.

No work undone; all task we ever try.

We bow our heads Saint John Academy.

We praise our patron forever.

Administration

Saint John Academy is under the supervision of the Department of Education (DepEd), Region III.
