The Emerson Theater

The Emerson Theater

The Emerson Theater is an all age music venue located at 4634 E. 10th Street in the Little Flower neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana. The Emerson Theater hosts original local music Friday and Saturday nights every week and also hosts some regional/national acts. The Emerson Theater used to be an old theater but a new owner removed all the seats and built in a stage. They have hosted several hundred shows over the years.

Recording History

*The album "Live: No Time for Tuning" by Indianapolis junk rock band Sloppy Seconds was recorded at the Emerson Theatre on April 15, 1995.

Film History

*In the late 1980s, the Emerson was owned by the same owners of the nearby Irving Theatre in the Irvington Historic District. After changing ownership, the Emerson became a venue primarily for live music. However, there were instances of films being shown to a general audience. One such showing (1996) was for "Rock 'n' Roll High School". The film's storyline revolves heavily around and features the pioneering punk band The Ramones.

The Emerson advertised the film on its marquee but many fans mistook the message and flooded the theater with phone calls to see if The Ramones were in fact going to appear. Owner Andy Berry had to record a message on the theater's answering machine informing fans that The Ramones would not be appearing, but the film would be shown on a Sunday evening.

Soon after all seats were removed from the theater. "Rock 'n' Roll High School" may have been the last film shown at the Emerson.
