Givi Targamadze

Givi Targamadze (born July 23, 1968) is a Georgian politician (United National Movement). Chairman of Defense and Security Committee of Parliament of Georgia, one of the leaders of United National Movement.

In 1996, together with Levan Ramishvili, Giga Bokeria and David Zurabishvili, Targamadze co-founded Liberty Institute, Georgian non-profit, non-partisan, liberal public policy advocacy foundation, taking a job of coordinating journalistic investigation programs.

Givi Targamadze, conducted a number of investigations, that were subsequently published in newspapers, which significantly contributed to the dismissal of the Minister of Communications, the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Energy, from their positions in 1998-2000. In the frame of Anti-corruption campaign Liberty Institute a lot of time named the Corruption and legal violations in the government.

In 1998-2000 Anti-corruption activities of the Liberty Institute, lead by Targamadze were enjoyed high degree of publicity: criminal activities of David Bezhuashvli, MP, and Levan Mamaladze, governor of the Kvemo-Kartli region; Corruption and legal violations at the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Communications; Participation of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Security in smuggling tobacco, petroleum and pure alcohol; Criminal interests and illegal business activities of President Shevardnadze's family.

As a result of Targamadzes publications, several high officials were forced to resign, including Minister of Communications, two Ministers of Energy, Minister of Agriculture, Governor of Shida Kartli region, chief of Presidents regional management service and others
