History

Started on 4.6.1971 (Friday) with a total strength of 171 which on its rolls has now risen to be a Senior Secondary School & Junior College with a strength of more than 2500 students with classes from Lower Kinder-Garden to Plus Two.

It is in keeping with this tradition that the Managing Committee of the Hindu High School started this Hindu Higher Secondary School for Boys (The Present Hindu Senior Secondary School & Junior College) in June 1971 with Classes VI & VII with the aim of giving a sound moral, intellectual Cultural and Physical Education of the national pattern so as to prepare the children to play their future role as worthy sons of Bharath. Besides giving a comprehensive general education comprising both Sciences and humanities. This institution provides for the learning of four languages-Tamil, The regional language, Hindi, The National language, English, The international language and Sanskrit our classical language.

In response to public request the Primary Section with Classes IV & V was opened in 1973 and in 1974 classes I to III were opened and the School was converted into a co-educational institution. In June 1975, the Primary Department was a full fledged institution with the addition of LKG & UKG and the Classes VI to XI (the then Higher Secondary) was affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The School which was accommodated in the HEO Hostel building at the beginning has been shifted to the new building form June 1974, 83 Big Street.

Later with the introduction of 10+2+3 pattern of education in the year 1976-77, the first batch for X Std, and that being the last year for XI std. (Higher Secondary) it appeared as a Mammoth task, but with the willing co-operation of the staff under the dynamic leadership of the Correspondent Sri S.D. Krishnamoorthy Rao ably monitored by Sri. S. Raman the targets reached with the students coming out in flying colours.

In the yaer 1978-79 the permission for +2 could not be granted and the correspondent was very much worried, it is the staff membes who besides placing their services at the disposal of the management, readily agreed to accept whatever salary the management could afford to give.

Unique Features of The School

All the three languages viz. English, Hindi, Tamil / Sanskrit are taught at the same level, thus giving an opportunity for students to have equal proficiency in these languages. They are also given opportunity to learn Russian language, Bathik-Art plumbing, tie & dye, creative writing, drawing, painting, toy-making, bajhans, slokas, music & dance.

The School has excellent facilities - having Internet, Multi-media computers, LCD projector, Overhead projector, Epidiascope for day-to-day use in the classroom. In order to foster the right attitude, patriotism, humanitarianism, love and fraternity in the minds of children ample opportunities are given to each and every student to join NCC, JRC, Scouts & Guides, Cubs, Bulbuls, Karuna Club and Radio Club.

The School is the Pioneer in introducing the Audio and Video-Cassette Library for the benefit of the students who have missed the lesson/ would like to listen to the lesson again could avail the facility.

Yoga for Classes IX to XII and simple physical exercise for the lower classes is compulsory.

Teacher Development Programme are held regularly on 3rd and 4th Saturday of every month for the professional growth of the teachers to impart Total Quality Education.

The Students are given ample opportunities to exhibit their latent talents in all the fields by participating in competitions held from school level to national and international level.
