Khorunzhiy

Khorunzhiy: Khorunzhiy ("Хорунжий" in Russian, "chorąży" in Polish; derives from the Polish word "choragiew", or banner), was initially the name for a standard bearer, which would later become a junior officer rank in the Cossack army of the Russian military. It corresponded to the rank of second lieutenant ("подпоручик", or podporuchik) of infantry or cornet of cavalry.
