Mövenpick Ice Cream is a brand of ice cream of Swiss origin produced by the Nestlé corporation. In April 2003, Nestlé bought the international rights for Mövenpick ice cream, and an independent business unit called Swiss Premium Ice Cream was created. The business is now operated by a subsidiary called Nestle Super Premium SA headquartered in Lausanne.
The first Mövenpick restaurant opened in Zurich on July 19, 1948 by Ueli Prager. By 1958, they have eight restaurants located throughout Switzerland. Prager would remain operating manager until 1991.
Originally, in the 1960s, Mövenpick ice cream was produced for restaurant sales only. The plant in Bursins was built in 1972, however production has now been shifted to a larger state of the art unit in Roerschach. Mövenpick’s ice cream has a "no artificial additives" policy.
Mövenpick sell their product through five different sales channels: gastronomy, retailing, scooping stations, boutiques and impulse sales. Mövenpick has a large number of "Mövenpick boutiques" in large cities across the globe.
Mövenpick ice cream is now available in more than 30 countries, and is produced in New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Norway, while the main production site is in Switzerland.
