Ewing Y. Freeland was a head football coach at Texas Christian University and Texas Tech University.

In 1925, Freeland coached at TCU, compiling a 4–5 record. Later in 1925, he became the first coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team (known then as the Matadors). He coached at Texas Tech, where he had a 21–10–6 record, until 1928. His overall career record stands at 25–15–6. Freeland was also the first head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team.
