Iowa Highway 70 is a state highway that runs from north to south in eastern Iowa. It has a length of 24 miles.

Termini

The southern terminus of Iowa Highway 70 is at Iowa Highway 92 in Columbus Junction, while its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 6 in West Liberty.

Route description

Iowa Highway 70 begins at Columbus Junction at Iowa Highway 92. It goes north through Conesville, then turns slightly northeast to go through Nichols. At Nichols, it intersects Iowa Highway 22 and the two highways overlap going east from Nichols. Iowa 70 then turns north and ends in West Liberty.

History

The current version of Iowa Highway 70 is the second instance of Highway 70 in the state. The original went west from U.S. Highway 169 to Macksburg and was removed from the Iowa highway system in 1967.Iowahighwaysref|lowrg=70|hirng=79|num=70|m_iter=yes|access_date=4 February 2007]

The current highway was created January 1, 1969 and replaced Iowa Highway 76. The current highway previously extended south to Columbus City, but that segment was removed and became Iowa Highway 947 in 1994.
