"Fire on the Mountain" is a song by the Grateful Dead. It was written by lyricist Robert Hunter and composed by drummer Mickey Hart.Cite web|url=http://arts.ucsc.edu/gdead/agdl/fire.html|title=The Annotated "Fire on the Mountain"|accessdate=2007-01-31|author=Dodd, David|work=The Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics|format=html] It was commercially released on the album "Shakedown Street" in November of 1978.

Prior to the recording, the song premiered at a concert on March 18, 1977 at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco.Cite web|url=http://www.archive.org/details/gd1977-05-08.aud.moore.cribbs.28301.shnf] The song would often be paired with "Scarlet Begonias" during live performances, producing lengthy musical excursions. The paired songs were soon nicknamed "Scarlet Fire" . One such performance, at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1977, lasted for a total of 26 minutes and 22 seconds.

Always a fan favorite, "Fire on the Mountain" was played by the Grateful Dead 254 times between 1977 and 1995.Fact|date=May 2008

An outtake of the song also appeared as a bonus track on the 2004 reissue of Terrapin Station.

This song has been rumored to have been played by the Grateful Dead during the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
