Diane Miller is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, "General Hospital". She has been portrayed by Carolyn Hennesy since January 3, 2007.

Character history

Diane was introduced as the new attorney of Port Charles mobster Sonny Corinthos. She was hired by him following the shooting of Lorenzo Alcazar to keep him out of prison. It was Diane who advised Sonny to convince witness to the shooting and ex-wife Carly Benson to re-marry him in order to prevent her from having to testify against him. When a woman claiming to have been responsible for placing Alcazar's gun in a nearby trash can came forward, Diane informed Sonny he could annul his marriage to Carly, but he convinced Diane not to tell her. More recently, Diane has found herself defending Jason Morgan after he was charged with Alcazar's murder, despite the fact that he was guilty. Diane won the case for Jason.

Before becoming Sonny's lawyer, Diane took on a case for a man accused of rape. The man was accused of raping and murdering a black teenage girl because "she was black". He did commit the crime. Diane had a way to get him out of jail, but decided not to and he went to prison. He was stabbed in prison. Diane sometimes feels guilty because she feels that she, in a way, killed him. But in the end, she knows deep down that she did the right thing.

Jason told Diane that he is the father of Jake Spencer. Diane helped Elizabeth Webber with her divorce to Lucky Spencer, much to the ire of Alexis Davis, who represented Lucky.

She worships Kate Howard, couture fashion, and has an obsession with shoes.

Diane is a savvy lawyer. She holds more than her own while interacting in a world (mob) that has made even the strongest of men crumble. She also prides herself on not becoming a personal friend of Sonny, despite their close association. She seems to like Jason and finds it much favorable working for him than Sonny since she considers him to be smart, rational, and levelheaded and makes his demands clear unlike Sonny.

When both she and Alexis Davis were nominated for Litigator of the Year, they got into trouble more than once on there road trip where they developed a friendship and a better understanding of each other. Diane has kept the gun from the bar on her road trip and had been using it to scare off the Text-Message Killer.

More recently, she and Alexis went out to a bar where Alexis mostly worried over her daughters, and when she came over, drunk, to Sonny's house, Max was there, torn up over the fact that he did not tag along when Michael was shot at the warehouse. Diane called him a very handsome but stupid man. When she started feeling guilty also, she abruptly pulled him into a passionate kiss. Later, Alexis walked in screaming as she caught them having sex on the couch. Sonny was furious after he found out about their relationship and ordered them to end it unless they wanted to be fired but Max and Diane stood up to Sonny and fought to stay together.

Jason told Max and Diane after he took over for Sonny that he does not care if they see each other as long as it does not affect their jobs and waste his time which made Diane happy to hear.

She tried to help Alexis find a way a legal way to make Sonny give up custody of his daughter Kristina and agreed to help Patrick Drake sue Robin Scorpio for visitation rights to their unborn child.

Later on, Max and Diane are talking about a tryst that Sonny and Carly back in May. Their conversation is overheard by Kate's assistant Clarice, who tells Kate. The resulting chain of events lead to Max and Diane arguing and breaking up.
