Elisabeth of Carinthia

Elisabeth or Elizabeth (1298 – after 1347) was the daughter of Otto III of Carinthia and Tyrol (also numbered as Otto II) by his wife Euphemia of Silesia-Liegnitz. She was born in Gorizia.

Family

Her paternal grandparents were Meinhard, Duke of Carinthia and Elisabeth of Bavaria. Her maternal grandparents were Henry V the Corpulent and Elisabeth of Poland.

Elisabeth of Bavaria was a daughter of Otto II Wittelsbach, Duke of Bavaria and Agness of the Rhein. Henry V was a son of Bolesław II the Bald and his first wife Hedwig of Anhalt. Elisabeth of Poland was a daughter of Bolesław V the Chaste and Kinga of Hungary.

Agness was a daughter of Henry V, Count Palatine of the Rhine and a senior Agness of the Rhein. Hedwig was a daughter of Henry of Anhalt and Irmgard of Thuringia. Kinga was a daughter of Béla IV of Hungary and Maria Laskarina.

The senior Agness was a daughter of Conrad of Hohenstaufen and his second wife Irmingard of Henneberg. Henry of Anhalt was a son of Bernard III, Duke of Saxony and Judith of Poland. Irmgard was a daughter of Hermann I, Landgraf of Thuringia and his second wife Sophie of Bavaria. Maria Laskarina was a daughter of Theodore I Laskaris and his first wife Anna Angelina.

Sophie of Bavaria was a daughter of Otto I Wittelsbach, Duke of Bavaria and his wife Agnes of Looz.

Marriage

On 23 April 1322, in Catania, she married Peter II of Sicily and became queen-consort of Sicily. She was briefly regent for her eldest son Louis after Peter's death.

Besides Louis, she had two sons and six daughters:
*Frederick IV, successor of Louis
*Eleanor (1325 – 1375), married Peter IV of Aragon, mother of Martin II of Sicily
*Beatrice
*Constance
*Euphemia (1330 – 1359), regent from 1355 to 1357
*Violante (born 1334), died young
*John (1342 – 1373)
*Blanca (1342 – 1373)
