"The Great Waltz" is a stage and screen musical which uses themes by Johann Strauss I and Johann Strauss II. It debuted on Broadway on September 22, 1934 and ran for 289 performances. The original stage production featured lyrics by Desmond Carter, while the 1938 film had a new book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical was made into a motion picture by MGM in 1938.

Later, with lyrics and music adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest the work enjoyed a 1970 stage revival and a 1972 film remake. In London, the show opened at the Drury Lane Theatre on July 9, 1970 and ran for 605 performances.

The story of the show is loosely based on the real-life feud between the older and younger Strauss, allegedly because of the father's jealousy of his son's greater talent.
