A sestiere (plural sestieri) is a subdivision of a number of Italian towns; for the origin and application of the word, and examples of these towns, see
sestiere .The best-known town divided into "sestieri" isVenice . The city is divided into the six sestieri ofCannaregio ,San Polo ,Dorsoduro (including theGiudecca andIsola Sacca Fisola ),Santa Croce , San Marco (includingSan Giorgio Maggiore ) and Castello (includingSan Pietro di Castello andSant'Elena ). Each sestiere was administered by aprocurator and his staff.These districts consist of
