D&D Precision Tools

D&D Precision Tools was a manufacturing job shop, founded by Dave Gonzalez in December 1978 in Bellflower, California. D&D specialized in the development, design and complete fabrication and processing of high-speed precision metal stamping dies and component hardware parts.

Technology development

*D&D was credited with the beta technology development with Mitutoyo Industries, of digital measurement electronic readouts applied to precision manual surface grinding operations (1982) yielding close tolerance finishes (+/- .0002) in a production environment.
*D&D was instrumental in the concept, development and implementation of adapting high speed stamping tool design theory to multi-slide press technology (1979) with Walker Corp, yielding a significant reduction in precision tooling costs.
*D&D, with EDM Specialties Co, was among the first tool and die companies to incorporate wire electronic discharge machine technology (WEDM) in the design and fabrication of multi-stage punch-press stamping dies (1978) yielding efficient, less expensive tool design and fabrication costs, while increasing quality by utilizing predictable CNC programming technology.
*D&D developed a tooling application for Ryko Industries that extruded existing metal from a commercial electric meter panel, eliminating a required casting, reducing the overall manufacturing costs from $1.75 ea. to $0.60 ea.

Company milestones

*1979 - D&D incorporated a seven piece, spot welded sub-assembly into a single piece stamping ( a computer clutch drive arm ) for Qume Computer Company, reducing part piece manufacturing costs from $8.50 to $0.75 each.

*1982, D&D developed and produced a "pole piece" electronic coaxal switch component for Transco Products, reducing fabrication operations by adapting a stamping methodology, reducing overall manufacturing costs from $9.50 per part to under $3 dollars per part.

*1985, D&D was awarded supplier sole source status for component manufacturing with Hughes Aircraft's Advanced Communications Division, to produce intricate satellite components for the Strategic Defense Initiative program.
