"For the tv presenter and archaeologist of the same name see Julian Richards"

Julian Richards is a multi-award winning film-maker from Newport, Monmouthshire. He studied at The National Film School where he made three 16mm shorts: "Priates", "Queen Sacrifice" and "Bad Company". After winning the British Short Film Festival 1990 he moved to Los Angeles to adapt the novel "Calling All Monsters" for Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. After television experience on "Brookside", Richards made his feature film debut with "Darklands", a brooding tale of underground paganism. A firm festival favourite winning several awards including the Melies for Best European Fantasy Film, the picture was picked up for distribution by Pathé. Richards followed up with the urban thriller "Silent Cry" and the independent shocker "The Last Horror Movie". A cult sensation, winning Best UK Feature at Raindance and a second Melies for Best European Fantasy Film, this video diary of a serial killer was picked up for distribution by Tartan. Richards is currently completing coming of age thriller "Summer Scars", in pre-production on rural thriller "The Farm" and development on revenge thriller "Long Dark Hours".

His uncle was Rex Richards, Welsh international rugby union player and actor.
