It was founded in 1923 as The Toronto Hebrew Maternity and Convalescent Hospital. In 1924, the name was changed to Mount Sinai Hospital. Mount Sinai Hospital was founded as an institution to provide culturally appropriate services to the Jewish community as well as poor immigrant and non-English speaking communities, in addition to interning positions and hospital privileges for Jewish doctors.
