Stoneygate

Stoneygate

Stoneygate is an area of Leicester, England.

Situated towards the south side of Leicester, Stoneygate is characterised by large detached houses and wide leafy streets. It is located around London Road between Leicester and Oadby. The Stoneygate council ward also includes parts of Evington Valley and Highfields.

The name originates in Old English as "stone road", and Ordnance Survey maps show the former route of an unnamed Roman road leading South-West from Stoneygate on the A6 towards Little Stretton, Medbourne and Corby.

Stoneygate is part of the Leicester South parliamentary constituency whose MP is Sir Peter Soulsby.

It has a wide variety of upmarket shops and boutiques, on Allandale Road and Francis Street. Details of which can be found on the following website [http://www.stoneygateshops.com]
