Former Helsinki Business Polytechnic, now renamed as Haaga-Helia University Of Applied Sciences (Helia) is Finland's largest business polytechnic (Ammattikorkeakoulu in Finnish). It is an open polytechnic, owned by a foundation, which is run by Helsinki's Business-life. Helia-building number 1, locates in East-Pasila. The second premise locates in Porvoo. Helia offers education on Business Economics, Information technology, Management Assistant Education, Communications and Tourism Education, Journalism, vocational teacher education programmes and languages. There are about 6000 students in Helia. There are about 380 people working in Helia of which 230 are full-time teachers.

The former Helsingin Sihteeriopisto, Helsinki Secretary Academy (HSO), which taught HSO-secretaries, is now part of Helia.

28.3.2006 Helia and Haaga Polytechnic Institute merged. This new school began operating in the beginning of the year 2007. That increased the total amount of students to 10000 and staff to 600.ref|new

Research and Business Development Centre

Helia's Research and Business Development Centre is producing tailor-made training services to associations and companies. The training is tailored to meet the needs of the individual company by a variety of short-term courses and longer programmes for business operations development, sales training and IT training. The majority of the programmes are executed in cooperation with customers.

The Helia MBA

The Helia MBA is a part-time program designed for business professionals seeking deeper understanding of the wide spectrum of management issues. The optimal combination of online and contact learning allows you flexibility to adjust studying with career and private life. The program is provided in co-operation with international partner universities.

Study fees

The study fee of Open Polytechnic is 100 euros/semester. Paying 100 euros entitles a student to study in maximum 30 credits during one semester (autumn or spring term). An Open Polytechnic student is not entitled to social benefits for students.

By a single payment of 100 euros you can study as many credits as you want during one semester. However, the maximum is 30 credits per semester.
