The A11 highway ( _hr. Autocesta A11) is a highway in northern Croatia, which will connect the town of Sisak via Velika Gorica to Zagreb. [http://www.hac.hr HAC] ] The building process began in 2007 and it was supposed to be built from north to south. The road is facing opposition among some local activists claiming to protect wildlife and nature [http://www.autocesta.org autocesta.org ] ] . Its construction has been delayed due to the efforts of Tonino Picula, the mayor of Velika Gorica, but the highway is currently being built along the original, unchanged route. Due to the delays and land acquisition problems, a currently unconnected short strip of highway around the Velika Gorica south interchange was built before the construction of the northern sections of the highway began. Proposals have been presented to start the construction from Mošćenica and continue northbound until the problems are solved. The highway is very important to commuters from Velika Gorica and Turopolje who have to use the heavily congested Velikogorička Road to get to Zagreb.
