Camp Cosmos

Camp Cosmos

Camp Cosmos was a comic strip for a short time in the UK comic "The Beano". It made its first appearance in issue 2859, dated 3 May 1997. In that first strip, Bert Spontlin, scrap merchant and sausage knotter, got his wife to fire a lorry into the sky with him in it to collect the space debris. When he came back he made a fortune by selling it off, and turned the rest into the world's first inter-galactic holiday camp, Camp Cosmos. His staff included a Rubbish Gobbler from Jupiter (who was assigned the job of Head Cleaner), an Octopus like creature from Uranus (Head of Entertainment), a character named Splosho from Planet Merdon (Chief Pool Attendant) and a creature with multiple eyes (Lookout). The strip was drawn by John Geering, and was one of the nominees to be voted into the comic by readers in that year, along with Sydd, Trash Can Ally, Have A Go Jo, Crazy for Daisy and Tim Traveller. In the end, however, Crazy for Daisy and Tim Traveller won. However, Camp Cosmos did appear in one annual.
