Anastasia Again!

Anatasia Again (1981) is a young-adult novel by Lois Lowry. It is part of her Anastasia and Sam series.

Plot summary

Anastasia has found out that her family is moving to the suburbs! She decides that she is not going to move. So, she sulks around the house, moping about how her parents tell her that the Krupnik family is a democracy. Mr. and Mrs. Krupnik tell her that she is going to help them pick the house. There is also something else on Anastasia's mind- the fact that Sam, her 2 1/2 year old brother, has a big vocabulary, but is still like a baby in other ways.

There is a briefcase carrying, geeky jerk in Anastasia's class-Robert Giannini. Anastasia thinks he is dumb, but he likes her! He invites her to the river, and Anastasia goes.

The Krupniks go house- searching and fall in love with a house with a tower. They buy it! There is an old lady, Gertrude Stein, (nicknamed Gertrustein by Sam) who stays in the house all day because she is lonely. Anastasia fands a bunch of older folks and invites them to her house. Then, she invites Gertrustein. Gertrude gets new friends, and Anastasia decides that living in he suburbs won't be so bad, after all.

Reviews

Though not one of Lowry's more popular young adult novels, the book and series did receive positive reviews upon release. Horn Book commented upon the novel stating "Anastasia Krupnik is one of the most intriguing female protagonists to appear in children's books since the advent of Harriet the Spy . . . Genuinely funny, the story is a marvelously human portrait of an articulate adolescent." It was awarded as an ALA notable book.
