Peps Persson (born December 20, 1946) is a Swedish blues and reggae musician from Tjörnarp, Scania. Throughout his career he has mostly made music in Swedish and is well known for his Scanian dialect. At an earlier stage he made a few albums English.

Career

Persson helped introducing blues and reggae (+ the Scanian dialect) to the Swedish people. His career up to 1975 was mostly inspired by the blues, and Peps is known for having reworked many famous blues tunes into Swedish, by such artists as Muddy Waters and Elmore James. [cite web| author=Lovén, Lars| url =http://wm09.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll | title = Peps Persson Biography | publisher = Allmusic.com | accessdate = 2007-09-08] Among the most famous are "Himlen gråter" ("The Sky is Crying" by Elmore James) from "Blodsband", and the album "Rotblos" consisted only of translated blues classics.

After 1975, his career turned away from the blues and focused mostly on reggae, making Peps the foremost Swedish pioneer in the genre. Some of his songs, like "Falsk matematik" and "Hög standard", made a political statement, and was considered part of the progg movement.
