Toronto International Tandem Bicycle Challenge

The Toronto International Tandem Bicycle Ironman Challenge is a race held annually on the second weekend of November. The race leaves the Humber Bay Arch Bridge on Friday 9 November 2007 at 6:00pm E.S.T. and returns at about the same time on Sunday. Racers of similar size form teams and battle for the prestigious Golden Jugs trophy aboard tandem bicycles. The weekend long event is known around the world as a fierce test of mettle built on a foundation of sportsmanship and friendship.

Route

The route changes from year to year. The 2007 course features the autumnal colours of Ontario's Golden Horseshoe, passing through communities such as St. Catherines, Niagara Falls, and Caledonia.

Race Marshals

This year's special guest race marshal is reality television star Dog the Bounty Hunter. Previous guest marshals have included TV personality George Stroumboulopoulos, Word Tag Team Champions the Hart Foundation, and Body Break stars Hal Johnson and Joanne McCleod.

Race History

The Toronto International Tandem Bicycle Ironman Challenge was founded in 1981. Since 1998, it has been sponsored by Groupaction Marketing. The race record was set in 1988 when Bruce Bowden and Geoff Seaborn completed the course in six parsecs. In 2005, the challenge was cancelled for the first time ever when -- while passing African Lion Safari near Cambridge, Ontario -- a rhinoceros in heat raucously crashed the course.
