Howie Goss

Howie Goss

Howard Wayne Goss, born November 1 1934 in Wewoka, Oklahoma, was a professional baseball player who played two seasons in the majors as an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Colt .45's (later the Houston Astros). He died July 31 1996 in Reno, Nevada.

Playing career

In his first season 1962, Goss played in 89 games for the Pirates, batting .243. He showed some power potential with a .351 slugging average, and the Colt 45s traded for him. In the 1963 season, Goss played in 133 games for the Colt 45s and batted only .209 with just 9 home runs. Houston got the worst of the trade with the Pirates, as they gave up Manny Mota in the trade. Mota had a long and productive career in the major leagues, while Goss was shortly gone from the game.
