John Letford

John Letford

John Letford, born in Aberdeen, Scotland is the current Lord Provost of Dundee. He moved to Dundee in 1943 and later served an apprenticeship in the Caledon Shipbuilding & Engineering Company shipyard as a Marine Coppersmith. He served in the Royal Air Force from 1956 until 1958. In 1989 he was a Training Manager with Community Industry Rathbone for 15 years and a Councillor for Dundee District in Tayside Regional Council and Labour Party Chairman for Camperdown. He served on several committees with interests in sports, theatre, education, local services and disabled associations. He has been involved with Dundee City Council since 1994 where he worked his way up to the office of Lord Provost in 2003. He currently resides in the Charleston area of the city.
